About Kingdom Within

Kingdom Within  by GJ Gillespie.
Mixed media collage. 22 x 17. 2014

This college is one of the most popular GJ Gillespie images. It has been repinned on Pinterest more than 50 times, won an award and appeared in shows in Kirkland, Redmond, Everett, Oak Harbor and Vancouver BC Canada.

Based on an ancient Greek statue, the collage is made of French and Japanese magazine images, tissue, watercolor, acrylic paint, ink, oil crayon and natural river clay stained newspaper clippings.

The lively figure is surrounded by a bleak background with a moon on the horizon, suggesting that the figure has inner strength in the midst of a menacing environment.
