The jury for the Northwest Collage Society 2015 Spring Exhibit accepted a piece by GJ Gillespie.

"Man Disguised as Spirit" will be on display at the Bellevue Arts Museum from March 21 to June 30.

This watercolor and paper composition is inspired by the indigenous Selknam peoples of Argentina.

Following the BAM show theme of "Adornment" the work pictures a traditional Selknam man covered in body paint.

Tribesmen adorn their bodies with symbolic imagery to recognize teenagers as adults during coming-of-age ceremonies.

GJ Gillespie seeks to re-imagine past art forms -- especially symbolic and ritual designs of indigenous peoples.

The piece joined other works by northwest collage artists as a compliment for a jewelry and pin collection of former Secretary of State Madeline Albright shown in the main gallery.
