In "Shelter from the Storm" the artist used spray paint, house paint, Chinese calligraphy, tissue, ink, and graphite to create a feeling of depth, movement and serenity.

"Horse Latitudes" is inspired by northwest mystic painter Kenneth Callahan's horse images. It appeared in six shows:
     Shelton Civic Center,
     Hurst Gallery Kirkland,
     425 Collective show Kirkland,
     Seattle Oasis show,
     Roslyn Arts Festival
     and won an award at a Cascadia Art Museum show in Edmonds. 



"Horse Latitudes" is a nautical term that refers to a belt of calm air and sea occurring in both the northern and southern hemispheres between the trade winds and the westerlies. It is also the title of a poem by Jim Morrison of The Doors.

Background
In July 2018 James chose four pieces for the program to be shown on the galleries website. 


Created in June and July, the collages were inspired by modern art icons Arshile Gorky and Hans Hoffman.
